Copyright & Licensing

Copyright has existed for hundreds of years as a means of protecting the worth of a piece of music or text. It provides income for the author, composer and publisher and helps to keep the works available in print at an affordable price.

Performance Licence

Any public performance of a piece of copyright music requires a licence. Works remain protected by copyright for 70 years after the death of the author or composer. Even if you do not intend to charge an entrance fee for your performance, it is necessary to apply for a licence and a fee will still be payable. If you are staging more than one performance within twelve months, you need only pay the minimum licence fee once. The only time a performing fee is not payable is when the musical is performed within a public worship service and forms part of the act of worship.

Streaming/Recording Licence

If you plan to record audio or video of any of our musicals or nativities, or if you intend to stream a performance, you must acquire a Filming/Streaming Licence. This license grants permission for your production and allows you to make unlimited streams or recordings. You can purchase the licence directly from your musicals product page on our website.

Photocopying our Script and Music

If you would like to make copies of our lyrics and music to give to students and faculty, please report it on your SPML (Schools Printed Music Licence) returns.

If you copy the script, resources, cast list or staging suggestions, please report it in your CLA (Copyright Licensing Agency) returns.

You are free to use the musical in the classroom but please log any photocopying with the relevant bodies.

If you include our lyrics in your production programmes or display them on a screen during the performance, please include the following acknowledgement: ‘Used by permission of The Little Musicals Company.’

If you would like to edit the script to suit your needs, you can purchase an editable script from your musical product page.

Please note that photocopies must be destroyed after the performance has been completed and must not be passed to other schools or organisations.

Sharing Digital Downloads

Digital downloads must not be shared via your school website or portal as these can be further distributed and copied.
